- Affleck, a Red Sox fan, refused to wear a Yankees cap.
- The actor stated Fincher lies for a reaction with dark humor.
Ben Affleck has addressed a long-standing anecdote shared by 'Gone Girl' director David Fincher. Fincher had claimed that Affleck's refusal to wear a New York Yankees cap shut down production on the 2014 thriller. Affleck, a dedicated Boston Red Sox supporter, vehemently denied this account on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.
Affleck described Fincher as a "lying motherf--ker" but clarified the comments were made in jest, highlighting their enduring friendship. He suggested Fincher employs a dark sense of humor and often says things to elicit a strong reaction. The actor confirmed he did refuse to wear the Yankees hat.
Despite the playful confrontation, Affleck assured listeners the situation was far less dramatic than Fincher's retelling. The 'Good Will Hunting' star, who shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, humorously acknowledged his refusal to don the rival team's cap during filming.
