Affleck: Ambition, Not Arrogance, Drives Young Stars

Ben Affleck recently shared his perspective on ambition, particularly in younger actors.

He defended Timothée Chalamet against criticism for expressing aspirations for greatness, stating that such ambition is a positive trait and questioning the alternative of aspiring to mediocrity. Affleck emphasized his desire to work with individuals who are committed to achieving excellence.

This outlook is reflected in his latest project, the Netflix thriller 'Animals,' where he directs and stars. In the film, Affleck plays a Los Angeles mayoral candidate facing a personal crisis. The movie, which also features Kerry Washington and Steven Yeun, is set to be released on October 9 in select theaters and on Netflix.

Affleck, who has navigated Hollywood for decades, also reflected on his past work, including 'Pearl Harbor,' noting its aesthetic merits while acknowledging its perceived depth. He highlighted that films serve various purposes and that even ambitious projects carry the inherent risk of falling short.
