Beloved Bay Area News Anchor Bids Emotional Farewell After 10-Year Tenure

On September 30th, 2025, Reggie Aqui, a San Francisco journalist, celebrated his 10th anniversary with ABC7 News while simultaneously announcing his departure from the network. Aqui, who has been a fixture in the Bay Area news landscape for the past decade, teared up as he reflected on his time at the station.

Aqui expressed that his "proudest" achievement was not an industry accolade or a particular news story, but rather the relationships he had built with his co-anchors and his audience, whom he affectionately referred to as his "co-anchors." He shared that his interactions with viewers, whether on the street, in the store, or through social media, were the highlights of his career, as they told him that he and his team made their day a little bit better.

Despite the bittersweet nature of his farewell, Aqui remained grateful for the experience, stating that he was "so happy it happened" and that the complex emotions of happiness and sadness were his "favorite kind of emotion." Aqui's career highlight was an interview with country legend Dolly Parton, in which he joined her for a duet of her song, "Islands in the Stream."
