In a major move for the 'Final Destination' franchise, New Line Cinema has announced that Belgian filmmaker Michiel Blanchart will direct the next installment. This comes on the heels of 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' becoming the highest-grossing chapter in the 25-year-old horror series, earning $315 million globally.
Blanchart, who is represented by WME, first gained attention with his acclaimed short film 'You're Dead Helene', which won top prizes at several international film festivals. He then made his feature debut last year with the high-octane thriller 'Night Call', which made history as the first Belgian film to win 10 Magritte Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best First Feature.
Now, Blanchart will bring his unique blend of horror, comedy, and romance to the next 'Final Destination' movie. Returning producers include Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich, with Warren Zide as executive producer. The screenplay is by Lori Evans Taylor, who co-wrote 'Final Destination: Bloodlines'.
With the franchise having grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it New Line's third biggest horror series, expectations are high for Blanchart to deliver a thrilling new chapter that will continue the 'Final Destination' legacy.
