"Begin Again" Musical Adaptation Announced for 2026 Premiere

In an exciting announcement, producers have revealed that a new musical adaptation of the 2013 film "Begin Again" is set to have its world premiere at San Diego's The Old Globe theatre in September 2026. The musical, which will be part of the Old Globe's 2026 season, has been in development since 2023 when it was first reported that Train's Pat Monahan was working on the score.

The musical, which has been adapted by Jenny Clark Embrey, will feature music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Brian Usifer, choreography by David Neumann, and direction by Lorin Latarro. Producers Stephanie Kramer, Tamar Climan, and Nicole Kramer have expressed their delight in bringing this "true labor of love" to the stage, promising that the new musical will capture the "heart, hope, and transformative power of music" that made the original film so special.

The 2013 film "Begin Again," which starred Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley, centered on a brokenhearted songwriter and a burnt-out record producer who cross paths in New York City, sparking a collaboration that transformed them both. The film also featured the Academy Award-nominated song "Lost Stars," performed by Adam Levine.
