A flute played on The Beatles' classic track 'The Fool On The Hill' has been sold at auction for a significant sum of £23,000. This unique instrument was originally owned by the renowned Cornish session musician, Jack Ellory.
Ellory's son, Brian Ellory, who resides in Shropshire, inherited the flute and made the difficult decision to part with it. His family expressed pride in Jack's extensive musical career, which spanned classical and pop records, as well as major film soundtracks. These included the James Bond and Pink Panther series, and the musical Oliver! during the 1950s and 1960s.
Brian Ellory recalled his father's career, noting that session musicians like Jack were in high demand. He mentioned that his father grew up in a small Cornish village before moving to London to pursue his career. Despite working with legendary artists, session musicians of that era often maintained a low profile, with little discussion of their work at home. Brian was a teenager when his father worked with The Beatles and expressed a wistful regret at not being asked to join them on such sessions.
