A book featuring the autographs of all four Beatles, alongside a broken guitar string belonging to George Harrison, has achieved an astonishing £7,000 at auction. This figure more than doubled the initial price expectations of £3,000-£4,000, marking one of the auction house's most successful sales for Beatles autographs.
The collection was assembled by 79-year-old Elizabeth Salt, who acquired the signatures and the guitar string on April 7, 1963, when she was 16. She managed to retrieve the broken string from the stage during a performance at the Savoy Ballroom in Southsea. Later, she also obtained the signatures of the Rolling Stones, Cliff Richard, and Adam Faith.
Salt's initial desire to show off the Beatles' signatures on her arm to friends was thwarted by her father, who insisted she wash them off fearing infection. Despite this early heartbreak, she continued to meet the band and collected further autographs, including another from Harrison and one each from Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. The winning bid came from an online bidder within the UK.
