The narrative centers on January Andrews, a romance novelist grappling with writer's block and grief following her father's death. She retreats to his Michigan beach house, where she encounters Gus Everett, an old college rival and fellow author.
January and Gus agree to a writing challenge, a collaboration that unexpectedly ignites a romance between them. This marks another screen adaptation of Henry's work, following the recent release of "People We Meet on Vacation."
