New BBC Drama 'The Young Team' Cast Revealed

Cameras are now rolling in Scotland for "The Young Team," a new six-part BBC drama based on Graeme Armstrong's acclaimed novel. Directed by Paul McGuigan, the series is being produced by Synchronicity Films for BBC iPlayer, BBC One, and BBC Scotland. Jakob James Smith stars as Alan 'Azzy' Williams, a teenager desperate to join a local gang, whose actions trigger a brutal conflict. Connor Newall and Scot Greenan also feature in prominent roles as part of 'The YTP' gang.

Supporting the young ensemble are established actors Kevin McKidd and Laura Fraser, playing key figures in Azzy's life. The drama delves into themes of friendship, identity, and belonging amidst territorial violence and addiction, offering an unflinching look at the realities faced by young, disenfranchised people. The story is rooted in Airdrie, with filming and setting confirmed for North Lanarkshire.

Graeme Armstrong, creator and writer of the novel, has co-written the series, emphasizing the authenticity of language and sense of place. Director Paul McGuigan expressed his excitement about returning to Scotland for this project. The series is supported by Screen Scotland and distributed worldwide by FOX Entertainment Global, with further casting announcements expected.
