The BBC World Service International Audio Drama Competition has celebrated its latest cohort of winners, drawing an impressive 800 entries from 87 countries. This prestigious event, supported by the British Council, champions emerging voices and compelling narratives in audio drama.
Winners received not only a cash prize but also the unique opportunity to see their drama brought to life as a studio production by the BBC. The awards ceremony took place on June 1 at the Commonwealth Foundation in London, hosted by Fiona Shaw CBE, and was attended by arts and culture professionals.
Notable winners include Finegan Kruckemayer from Australia for "Here, on a High Hill" (English as a First Language), Idi Nasiru from Nigeria for "Aisha's Horizon" (English as a Second Language), and "There is Something I am Feeling" by Rukshani Weerasooriya Wijemanne, Rushika Weerasooriya Heinle, and Rajeev Colton from Sri Lanka, which also received the Georgi Markov Award.
Commendations were also awarded to artists from Nigeria, Ireland, and China, highlighting the competition's extensive reach and diverse talent pool. The BBC World Service remains dedicated to supporting and developing creative talent worldwide through audio drama.
