Summary
- Batwara 1947 earned Rs 37.11 crore worldwide on its opening weekend.
- The film saw a 46% drop in collections on Sunday compared to Saturday.
- Awarapan 2 emerged as a stronger performer among recent releases.
Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol, garnered Rs 37.11 crore globally during its opening weekend, but momentum waned after its initial Independence Day boost. The film collected Rs 7.25 crore net in India on Sunday, a sharp decrease from Saturday's Rs 13.50 crore, bringing its India net total to Rs 26.50 crore.
The Partition drama, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, saw its collections fall by approximately 46% on Sunday. This performance lags significantly behind Sunny Deol's previous patriotic film, Border 2, which recorded a much stronger opening weekend and first Sunday.
Furthermore, Batwara 1947 faces stiff competition from Awarapan 2, another Independence Day release. The latter has proven to be the stronger performer, nearing Rs 100 crore in India and achieving Rs 110 crore gross globally by the end of its opening weekend.
Batwara 1947 is based on Asghar Wajahat's play and depicts a couple's struggle during the Partition. The film reunites Deol with director Santoshi after a long collaboration.
