Barry Keoghan: Online Hate Affects My Acting

Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan recently shared that he has withdrawn from social media due to the significant toll online abuse has taken on his career.

Keoghan, who has been filming for Sam Mendes' Beatles cinematic event, stated that persistent 'hate' directed at his appearance has become a problem. This negativity has made him reluctant to accept onscreen roles and has led him to "shy away" from public attention.

He described the online environment as having a "nasty side," despite acknowledging his supportive fan base. The actor explained that the constant exposure to hateful comments, particularly regarding his looks, has caused him to retreat inward, avoid attending events, and even hesitate to go outside.

This abuse has begun to "leak into his art," making him question his desire to be on screen. Keoghan also voiced his disappointment that his young son might encounter these negative comments as he gets older.
