A recent incident involving a Mattel Barbie doll has led to widespread criticism on social media. A customer reportedly discovered what appeared to be Nazi symbolism on the packaging of a gymnastics-themed doll from the 'You Can Do Anything' collection.
The discovery was documented in a video by content creator Ana Elizabeth, who shared it on TikTok. The video, which went viral, highlighted tiny illustrated figures in the background crowd that some viewers interpreted as making a Nazi salute.
Social media users reacted with disbelief and concern, with many questioning Mattel's oversight in the design approval process. Some comments suggested that the use of AI in generating the artwork might have contributed to the oversight, while others emphasized the need for thorough human review before product release.
Reports indicate that some customers who checked later found the packaging design had been updated to remove the controversial imagery. As of the current date, Mattel has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy.
