Glasgow will be the first Scottish city to host "Barbie: The Exhibition," a comprehensive showcase of the iconic doll's history. The exhibition, a collaboration between the Design Museum in London and Mattel Inc., opens at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on June 13, 2026, and will run until October 18, 2026.
Visitors can expect to see over 150 dolls, including significant editions like the first black, Hispanic, and Asian versions, as well as the first Barbie with Down's Syndrome and the first in a wheelchair. A rare, hand-painted first edition Barbie from 1959 will also be a centerpiece, alongside popular dolls from various decades and representations of Barbie's evolution and accessories.
The exhibition delves into Barbie's journey from her debut to the present day, featuring clothing, playsets, and vehicles. A dedicated section will explore the evolution of Ken, who first appeared in 1961. Tickets for this major summer event will be available for purchase online starting at 10 am on Tuesday.
