Erica Xia-Hou's drama "Banr," examining a 40-year marriage impacted by Alzheimer's disease, is being presented to buyers by Cappu Films. The film recently had its world premiere in the Narrative Features lineup at the 2025 Slamdance Film Festival. It will subsequently be featured at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market.
"Banr" stars Sui Li and Baoqing Li as the central couple, with Xia-Hou herself playing their daughter. The narrative focuses on how love, loneliness, and strain affect a family as the wife's memory deteriorates. Notably, approximately two-thirds of the film was shot using an observational, documentary-style technique.
Director Xia-Hou stated, "If memory disappears, does love disappear with it?" She further elaborated that love can endure even after the memories that once contained it are gone. This project reunites Xia-Hou with Cappu Films, following their collaboration on "Fox Hunt."
Janice Woo of Cappu Films expressed enthusiasm for introducing "Banr" to buyers in Busan, highlighting its close examination of everyday choices made by a family supporting a loved one experiencing memory loss. Cappu's Busan lineup also includes other notable titles such as "Fox Hunt" and "Operation Doolittle."
