Summary
- Reuters linked Banksy to Robin Gunningham, a Bristol artist.
- A 2000 New York arrest record includes a confession signed Robin Gunningham.
- Art dealer identified a man at a 2018 auction as Gunningham, matching Banksy.

The long-held anonymity of street artist Banksy may have finally been broken, with reports suggesting his identity is Robin Gunningham, a British artist originating from Bristol. Journalists investigating the artist's global presence, including a trip to Ukraine, claim to have uncovered substantial evidence pointing to Gunningham.
A critical piece of information cited is a New York arrest record from 2000. This document reportedly contains a handwritten confession signed with the name Robin Gunningham, a name previously linked to the artist.
Further supporting evidence comes from observations made at a 2018 Sotheby's auction in London. An art dealer identified a man present at the event, who he later recognized from an earlier photograph of Robin Gunningham, as Banksy.
Previous reports, including one from The Mail on Sunday in 2008, had also suggested Gunningham as Banksy's government-registered identity. The artist himself once stated his first name was 'Robbie' in a BBC interview promoting his 2003 'Turf War' show.
