Prima ballerina Viviana Durante is leading an inspiring three-month ballet program for 900 schoolchildren across the West Midlands. The initiative targets students in Birmingham, the Black Country, and Coventry, aiming to provide access to elite arts education in underserved communities.
The program's highlight will be a full-scale production of Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty. These students will perform the classic ballet at Birmingham Symphony Hall. They will share the stage with professionals from Birmingham Royal Ballet and be accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra.
Durante, a former principal dancer with The Royal Ballet, now dedicated to ballet education, stated that inspiring the younger generation is a duty for professional dancers. The project is facilitated by the Birmingham-based Transformation Partnership, which focuses on making high-level arts accessible to young people.
