Summary
- A Rs 66.9 lakh museum at Bagnath Temple complex remains closed.
- Staff shortages and pending administrative arrangements delay opening.
- Rare sculptures and artefacts from 8th to 16th centuries are inaccessible.

A museum constructed within the Bagnath Temple complex in Bageshwar, costing Rs 66.9 lakh, has remained closed to the public for six months post-completion. This facility was designed to preserve and exhibit rare sculptures and archaeological artefacts dating from the 8th to the 16th centuries.
The delay in opening is attributed to staff shortages and pending administrative tasks. District magistrate Apoorva Pandey stated that the administration is meticulously verifying the historical accuracy of each exhibit before public access is granted. Experts have been tasked with validating details for sculptures and artefacts.
Archaeology department official Chandra Singh Chauhan indicated that the museum was anticipated to open in August. Efforts are underway to fill vacant positions and implement a QR code-based digital information system for visitors. The collection features stone sculptures from the Katyuri and Chand dynasties and a significant inscription from AD 859.
Tourists and local residents have voiced their disappointment over the museum's inaccessibility, emphasizing its importance for cultural heritage and tourism. Temple priest Kailash Upadhyay noted that devotees frequently express frustration. Residents urge authorities to open the museum promptly to enhance Bageshwar's cultural identity and facilitate public connection with its past.
