Bafta Scotland will honor the production team behind the historic-fantasy television series Outlander with the Outstanding Contribution to Television award. This recognition celebrates the show's significant impact on Scotland's screen industry and its role in providing opportunities for local talent. The series, which spanned eight seasons over 12 years, concluded in the summer. Throughout its run, an initiative spearheaded by the Outlander production team successfully created more than 170 trainee roles. This has demonstrably benefited the local workforce and boosted the skills within the industry.
Beyond its industry contributions, Outlander has had a notable effect on Scotland's global perception and tourism. Scotland's tourism agency has highlighted the "Outlander effect," noting that thousands of visitors are drawn to the country specifically to see the landscapes featured in the popular TV series. Executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Matthew B. Roberts, along with stars Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe, are among those set to receive the prestigious award. Moore adapted Diana Gabaldon's novels for television, while Roberts expressed feeling at home in Scotland after thirteen years working on the show. A sequel series, Blood of My Blood, premiered in 2025 and continues to attract fans to Scotland, with its second season having debuted in September. The Bafta Scotland ceremony is scheduled to take place in Glasgow on November 15.
