René Pérez Joglar, known as Residente, will helm his first feature film, 'Porto Rico,' an epic historical drama starring Bad Bunny. The project aims to explore the island's controversial history and reaffirm its identity. Residente expressed a lifelong dream to create a film about his country, promising an intense and honest portrayal of its past.
The film is described as a Caribbean western and historical drama. Joining Bad Bunny and Residente in acting roles are established actors Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. Alexander Dinelaris, known for co-writing 'Birdman,' collaborated on the screenplay with Residente.
'Porto Rico' is being produced by 1868 Studios, a partnership between Residente and Sony Music focused on Latin stories. Backing for the film comes from Live Nation Studios and Class 5 Films. Edward Norton highlighted the film's place in a tradition of visceral dramas that confront underlying narratives.
