Backrooms: YouTube Horror Hit Becomes A24 Film

A24 is set to release the new horror film 'Backrooms' on May 29. This movie is an adaptation of Kane Parsons' highly successful YouTube horror series, which has amassed more than 190 million views. The 20-year-old director, Parsons, is now the youngest filmmaker in A24's history. The project was co-financed by A24 and The North Road Company's Chernin Entertainment. The film's plot follows two characters who stumble upon a hidden door in a furniture showroom's basement. This discovery leads them into the unsettling, expansive world of the 'Backrooms.' Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, and others are part of the film's cast. This release follows the success of 'Iron Lung,' another indie horror film that Markiplier self-distributed, earning over $43 million globally and highlighting a changing perception of YouTube content creators in the film industry.
