"Backrooms," a surreal horror film based on Kane Parsons' popular YouTube shorts, will become available for digital rental and purchase on Tuesday. The movie, created by Parsons when he was just 20 years old, has already garnered substantial attention, opening with an impressive $81.5 million at the box office.
Chiwetel Ejiofor takes on the role of a furniture store owner who stumbles upon a seemingly endless, surreal dimension concealed behind his store's walls. Renate Reinsve, Lukita Maxwell, Finn Bennett, and Mark Duplass also star in the film, which saw an extended version released on July 3.
The success of "Backrooms" marks a surprising box office trend, alongside Focus Features' "Obsession." This film, which premiered on VOD in June, has also performed exceptionally well, with its Peacock streaming date announced recently.
