B-52s: From Love Shack to Stately Homes Farewell Tour

The B-52s are currently on an extended farewell tour, with UK dates scheduled for June 2026. This tour sees the band performing in arenas for the first time, including shows at Manchester's AO Arena and London's O2. The iconic 'Love Shack,' released in 1989, was inspired by singer Kate Pierson's own rural home in Athens, Georgia.

Singer Kate Pierson expresses a fascination with British heraldry and a desire to visit Downton Abbey during their UK visit. The band, formed fifty years ago, will co-headline with Devo. Their journey began with an impromptu jam session after consuming a fiery cocktail in Athens.

Originally composed of six members, The B-52s developed a unique sound through a collage style of songwriting, recording jams and piecing them together. Their live debut in 1977 was a house party where their energetic performance caused the house to shake.

The band's breakthrough hit, 'Rock Lobster,' became an early independent success. Despite initial perceptions of being "weird," they influenced queer culture and alternative rock. The 1983 passing of guitarist Ricky Wilson due to AIDS deeply impacted the band.

Following Ricky Wilson's death, the band regrouped and released 'Cosmic Thing' in 1989, featuring hits 'Love Shack' and 'Roam.' This album, a tribute to Wilson, achieved significant success, selling over four million copies and earning Grammy nominations.

The B-52s continued to release music, including a cameo in 'The Flintstones' movie in 1994. They announced their final tour in 2022 and are scheduled for a Las Vegas residency before heading to Europe.
