Ayra Starr Makes History: First African Headliner in NFL London Game

Ayra Starr is poised to achieve another significant milestone as she becomes the first African artist to headline an NFL international game. The performance is scheduled for Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, during the match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Starr views this history-making event as a powerful message, highlighting the importance of artists seizing global opportunities to represent their culture and listeners.

This landmark performance will showcase songs from her latest studio album, 'Starrgirl,' released in August. The 24-year-old artist has previously set records, including being the first African woman to win best international act at the Mobo Awards and the first Nigerian woman to achieve over one billion YouTube video views. Her background in political sciences and international relations influences her outspoken stance on issues of equality and the girl child, a theme reflected in her music's message of freedom and self-determination.

Afrobeats, originating from West Africa, has experienced substantial global growth, with artists like Starr gaining international recognition at major festivals. Starr believes the world is now catching up to a genre that has long been popular in Africa. She aspires for Afrobeats to become one of the top music genres worldwide and advocates for greater recognition and opportunities for female artists within the genre, ensuring they receive the same privileges as their male counterparts. She feels this is merely the beginning of Afrobeats' ascent and evolution on the global stage.
