Avril Lavigne Covers Iconic 'Ironic' for New Movie

Avril Lavigne, a prominent figure in pop punk, has unveiled her cover of Alanis Morissette's classic 1996 song "Ironic." Released on Wednesday, this new rendition is part of the soundtrack for the Canadian romantic comedy film "Mile End Kicks," scheduled for theatrical release on Friday.

Lavigne's cover faithfully reproduces the original song's dynamics, starting with soft vocals and an acoustic guitar before building to a full band in the chorus. The song "Ironic" is a significant track from Morissette's 1995 album "Jagged Little Pill," which was a massive commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks. The single itself reached No. 4 on the Hot 100 chart.

This is not the first time Lavigne has performed "Ironic" live; she previously dueted with Morissette on the track in 2005. Lavigne, who debuted three years after "Jagged Little Pill," has had a successful career with 20 Hot 100 hits, including the chart-topping "Girlfriend." Her most recent album, "Love Sux," was released in 2022. This "Ironic" cover marks her first new release since a collaboration in October 2025.
