Work on James Cameron's 'Avatar 4' and 'Avatar 5' has officially commenced, with preproduction now underway. This progress follows the strong global box office performance of 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' which surpassed the USD 1 billion mark. Executive producer Rae Sanchini confirmed that the team is actively engaged in budgeting, scheduling, and developing new pipelines for these upcoming installments.
Cameron and his team are also focused on creating advanced technology to elevate the franchise's visual storytelling. Sanchini indicated that the scripts are complete and highly praised. The previous film, 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' a sequel to 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' achieved significant commercial success, earning approximately USD 1.48 billion worldwide.
'Avatar 4' is expected to explore the character Varang further and her antagonistic role against Eywa. Director James Cameron hinted that Varang might become a central focus in the new film. The director has previously emphasized the importance of box office results for the continuation of his high-budget projects. The untitled fourth and fifth films are anticipated to be released in theaters in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
