Author's Book Haunts Her Amid Lawsuit Fallout

She described the situation as a "circus," highlighting the real emotional toll it has taken, even impacting actors' careers. The author revealed she has remained silent to avoid negativity and personal attacks, stating she has her own story but prefers not to elevate herself by diminishing others.

The legal proceedings, which began in December 2024, have left the author feeling "embarrassed" to associate herself with her own writing. She shared that the aftermath of the film has inflicted more pain on her mother than her father's passing, a testament to the "ugliness" of the situation. Consequently, she now struggles to recommend the book, feeling its meaning has been completely lost amidst the controversy.

This situation intensified when a $400 million counter lawsuit was filed in December 2024 by Justin against Blake and Ryan Reynolds for defamation and extortion. This particular legal action concluded in October 2025 after the deadline to amend claims was missed. Previously, a judge had dismissed Justin's case against Blake and Ryan, as well as a separate $250 million defamation claim against The New York Times, in June.
