Summary

- Sikka claims Gulzar diminished the protagonist's true spirit in 'Raazi'.
- He also accused her of twisting the Sam Bahadur biopic narrative.

Author Harinder Sikka, known for his spy thriller 'Calling Sehmat,' which was adapted into the film 'Raazi,' has publicly criticized director Meghna Gulzar. Sikka posted on X (formerly Twitter) expressing regret over his choice of Gulzar for the film adaptation, citing "ideological bias" that he believes diminished the protagonist's true spirit. He further alleged that Gulzar presented a "leftist lens" in the biopic 'Sam Bahadur,' omitting the patriotic aspects of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw's life.
Sikka's recent remarks follow earlier accusations in 2020 where he claimed Gulzar altered the original narrative of 'Calling Sehmat' for the movie. He questioned the changes made to the film, including the absence of the Indian flag and attempts to remove him from literary events. Meghna Gulzar has not responded to these allegations.
Sikka's novel, 'Calling Sehmat,' details the story of a young woman trained as an undercover spy for R&AW, infiltrating a Pakistani military family before the 1971 India-Pakistan War. His other works, including 'Vichhoda,' 'Gobind,' and 'The Chabimaster,' are reportedly being adapted for screen.
