Aussie Composers Dominate 2025 Screen Music Awards

The 2025 Screen Music Awards, held on October 28th in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, shone a spotlight on the exceptional talents of Australian composers. Cornel Wilczek, a Melbourne-based composer, emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home two trophies. He was recognized for best music for a television drama, Fake, and best opening title television theme for the Netflix adaptation of the Jane Harper book, The Survivors.

Megan Washington, a celebrated Australian singer-songwriter, added a Screen Music Award to her collection, winning for best original song composed for the screen with "Dream On" from the film adaptation of Paul Kelly's beloved Christmas song, How to Make Gravy. The song was performed by the band Electric Fields, accompanied by a choir led by Deline Briscoe, closing the evening with a stunning performance.

Another Queensland creative, Joff Bush, the acclaimed children's screen composer, was honored for his work on the hit show Bluey, which was the most-streamed program in the United States in 2024. Bush won the award for most performed screen composer - overseas, a category he had also won the previous year.
