1 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Australian animator Joe Brumm created Bluey, a show about a precocious blue heeler
- Bluey aims to provide "good co-viewing" for parents and preschoolers
- Show features the adventures of Bluey, her sister Bingo, and their parents Bandit and Chilli

In 2023, Australian animator Joe Brumm set out to create a preschool show that both children and their parents could genuinely enjoy watching together. Noting the lack of such "co-viewing" content for the preschool demographic, Brumm dreamed up the concept for Bluey, a show centered around the adventures of a precocious 7-year-old blue heeler and her 5-year-old sister Bingo.
Sharing the stories of Bluey, Bingo, and their always-game-for-pretend-play parents Bandit and Chilli, Brumm's goal was to develop a program that could be appreciated by both preschoolers and their parents. As he explained to The Hollywood Reporter, "There were shows like that in older demographics, but they were a bit few and far between at the preschool stage, and I thought this is probably where you need it the most because you do end up watching a lot of it."
The show, which premiered in 2019, has since become a hit, captivating audiences with its relatable family dynamics and imaginative storytelling. As of October 2025, Bluey continues to delight preschoolers and their parents, offering a rare "good co-viewing" experience that bridges the gap between children's programming and content that adults can genuinely enjoy.
