The 59th Annual Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival concluded on June 21 at the Clatsop County Fair & Expo fairgrounds, celebrating Scandinavian heritage with music, dance, and crowning Miss Scandinavia 2026. Miss Iceland, Jenna Karnofski, received the crown, with Miss Finland, Sophie Saarheim, named runner-up and Sankta Lucia Bride. The festival included a firelit parade, a bonfire, and a Queen's Ball.
The Troll Run on June 20 supported festival scholarships, with Turner Boslar taking first place. The event showcased numerous musical acts and diverse dance troupes, including the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers and various local Nordic Viking Dancers. Grand Marshals Carla and Alan Oja led the Optog parade, followed by flag-raising and Midsummer Pole events.
Scholarships totaling $2,000 were awarded to Sophie Saarheim and Kylee Calvert. The Astoria Scandinavian Heritage Association also announced a Festival Poster Design Contest for its 60th anniversary, inviting artists 18 and older to submit designs for a cash prize and featured art. The winner will be announced at the Sankta Lucia Festival of Lights on November 27.
