Downtown Astoria was recently alive with creativity during the Second Saturday Artwalk. Art enthusiasts explored more than 20 venues, discovering unique installations and vibrant performances. Christy Caravaglio, a yarn artist, transformed the infamous "The Hole" into a colorful spectacle with woven patterns, a project commissioned for the upcoming Astoria Column Centennial Celebration on July 18.
Another highlight was the 13th Street Alley, which featured mural art by Andie Sterling and music by DJ Janick Amadeus. This narrow space, lined with art and filled with infectious beats, became an inviting hub for visitors. Adding to the festive atmosphere, a trio of attendees, Sharon Stanovich, Jim Stanovich, and Amy Keeling, delighted onlookers with their historically accurate, handmade costumes from the 1870s and 1890s. The Astoria Artwalk continues to be a popular monthly event, with the next iteration set for July 11, offering a diverse range of artistic expressions and community engagement.
