This year's Durga Puja in Assam has set a new record, with 9,002 community pandals erected across the state. This marks the highest number of celebrations ever recorded in Assam, from the Brahmaputra Valley to the Barak Valley.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the impressive figure, attributing the unprecedented scale to the prevailing peace, harmony, and mutual trust within the state. He expressed gratitude to all Puja committees, volunteers, and law enforcement personnel for their dedication.
The 2026 tally surpasses last year's figure of 8,521 by 481 and the 2024 count of 8,381 by 621. This growth signifies the festival's expanding presence in various localities, historic temples, and housing societies.
Favorable weather conditions complemented the festive spirit, as celebrations enlivened lower and upper Assam, northern districts, and the Barak Valley. The festivities included days of worship, cultural programs, and public gatherings, culminating in a landmark year for the festival.
