Asian Producers Unite for Co-Production Power

The Asian Producers Alliance (APA) has officially launched, established by independent producers from five Asian territories during the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market. This significant development aims to propel cross-border co-production initiatives and enhance the protection of creators' rights throughout the region.

Representing the Producers Guild of Korea, the Indonesian Film Producers Association, the Philippine Independent Producers Group, the Hong Kong Movie Production Executives Association, and the Taiwan Producers Association, the APA marks a collective effort by independent producers. The alliance was initiated by the PGK and APROFI, signifying a united front in navigating the complexities of the global film industry.

Initially functioning as a consultative coalition, the APA's core objectives include promoting co-production across Asia and safeguarding intellectual property rights. Future plans involve evolving into an organization with a structured decision-making framework. Producer organizations across Asia are eligible to join, with plans for quarterly online meetings and an annual general assembly.

Key leadership roles have been established, with Lee Dong-ha and Edwin Nazir serving as inaugural co-representatives. Han Jin and Yulia Evina Bhara will head the secretariat. The APA's next seminar is scheduled for December at the JAFF Market in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, focusing on creators' intellectual property rights.
