Veteran actress Asha Parekh recently paid tribute to her former co-star Joy Mukherjee on the anniversary of his death. She reflected on their collaborative journey, remembering their work together in films such as 'Ziddi,' 'Love in Tokyo,' and 'Hum Hindustani,' and described their professional dynamic as "great fun."
Parekh spoke about Mukherjee's considerable fame during his acting career, noting his immense popularity with female fans. She recalled an anecdote from the filming of 'Love in Tokyo' in Japan, where Mukherjee's celebrity status led to him being mobbed by admirers seeking autographs, a stark contrast to today's fan interactions.
During the shooting of 'Love in Tokyo,' an on-set incident occurred where Asha Parekh sustained a back injury. Joy Mukherjee was meant to carry her and place her on a bed, but in the process, she was 'hurled' onto it, leading to months of discomfort and a two-month period of bed rest for the actress.
Despite the painful incident, Parekh expressed no lingering resentment towards Mukherjee, stating there were "no hard feelings." She mentioned that Mukherjee was more distressed by the accident than she was, explaining that he had accidentally slipped while holding her. Joy Mukherjee passed away in March 2012 at the age of 73, leaving many heartbroken.
