Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital following multi-organ failure. The iconic vocalist was 93 years old.
Amitabh Bachchan, a close associate and frequent collaborator, expressed his deep sorrow and immense grief in an obituary posted on his blog. He described Bhosle's passing as the loss of a "phenomenal, astounding, prodigious presence" and an "entire encyclopedia of eternal music."
Bhosle's career spanned decades, and she lent her voice to numerous unforgettable songs in films starring Amitabh Bachchan. Memorable collaborations include "Pehle pehle pyaar ki" and "Do lafzon ki hai dil ki kahani" from 'The Great Gambler' (1979), and "Janu meri jaan" from 'Shaan' (1980).
Her extensive discography includes hits like "Dum maro dum" (1971), "Piya tu ab toh aaja" (1971), and "Chura liya hai tumne" (1973). Bhosle was honored with numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000, and India's Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
