Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai on Monday, April 13, 2026, marking an emotional farewell for a voice that defined Indian music for over eight decades. Thousands of fans and admirers gathered to mourn.
The cortege carrying Bhosle's body travelled from her Lower Parel residence to the Shivaji Park crematorium. A large photograph of the singer adorned the hearse, which was covered in flowers. Residents lined the streets to pay tribute.
The cremation ceremony commenced at Shivaji Park crematorium at 4 pm. Family members, including her son Anand Bhosle and siblings Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar, were present. Singers Anup Jalota and Shaan performed tributes, while actors like Aamir Khan attended.
Earlier in the day, a public viewing at her residence allowed fans and well-wishers to pay their final respects. Bhosle's body was brought from Breach Candy Hospital, placed in a glass casket draped with the Indian tricolour, and accorded a ceremonial police salute.
Several notable personalities from cinema and music, including Sachin Tendulkar, AR Rahman, Jackie Shroff, Riteish Deshmukh, and Ranveer Singh, gathered to honour the late singer. Bhosle had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday and passed away on Sunday due to multi-organ failure after battling multiple health issues.
Asha Bhosle began her singing career in 1943 and built an unparalleled legacy with timeless hits across various genres. Her notable works include collaborations with composer RD Burman. She received numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Padma Vibhushan.
