In a candid account, veteran actor Aruna Irani shared her experience of being replaced in the 1981 film 'Mangalsutra'. Irani, who had initially signed the film with Rekha, was unexpectedly removed from the project. She recounted that after signing, she received no communication regarding shooting schedules and only learned about her replacement through newspapers. Confronting the director, she was told Rekha had requested her removal. Rekha later admitted that Irani's role was quite edgy and could have portrayed her own character unfavorably.
Prema Narayan, known for playing vamp roles, ultimately replaced Aruna Irani in 'Mangalsutra'. The film, which also starred Anant Nag, focused on his character being haunted by Narayan's character's ghost. Despite its premise, 'Mangalsutra' did not achieve box office success. Irani also mentioned a similar situation occurred during the making of 'Aurat Aurat Aurat', alleging Rekha's opposition hindered its completion over a six-year period.
