EU Film Fest Celebrates Indian Cinema's Diversity and Talent

The 2025 European Union Film Festival, held in New Delhi from October 31 to November 9 and in Bangalore from November 7 to 15, has been curated by Artur Jósef Zaborski with a focus on celebrating the diversity and talent of Indian cinema.

Zaborski, who has long been a fan of Indian films, particularly those by acclaimed director Mira Nair, expresses his admiration for the country's cinematic landscape. He cites standout titles like the 2013 hit 'The Lunchbox' and Payal Kapadia's 2024 film 'All We Imagine As Light' as examples of the captivating visual language and cultural values that have resonated with him.

Notably, Zaborski is proud that nearly half of the films selected for this year's festival are directed by women, underscoring the festival's commitment to showcasing diverse voices and perspectives. He believes that the common thread uniting the European and Indian filmmakers is the shared human spirit, which allows the festival to build bridges between the two cultures and facilitate meaningful cultural exchange.

The curator emphasizes that the festival's diverse lineup, ranging from sports films to comedies and period dramas, is a reflection of the richness and complexity of both the European Union and India. Just as the EU comprises distinct countries with their own identities, India too is a vast, diverse nation with myriad ethnicities, languages, and cultural elements. Zaborski hopes that by presenting these cinematic experiences to Indian audiences, they will gain a deeper understanding of the European Union's own diversity.
