Seven years of an artist's creative output has reportedly gone missing in the post, jeopardizing an upcoming exhibition. Holly Searle, a textile artist from Ruislip, dispatched her entire collection of 206 unique tea towels on June 22, expecting delivery within 48 hours for her planned showcase at the Alton Arts Festival in Hampshire.
Her artwork, described as irreplaceable and central to her livelihood, was created as part of her Subverted Tea Towel Series, which began in 2020. The pieces combine vintage textiles with written commentary, blending serious themes with humor. Searle had previously exhibited similar works at Alexander Palace.
The package's disappearance became evident when tracking information ceased updating, showing the item stalled at a depot. Royal Mail has acknowledged the situation, stating they are investigating and attempting to locate the parcel. However, Searle feels the response does not adequately reflect the significant loss she has incurred, impacting her planned workshop at the community-focused festival.
