13 Feb
Summary
- Art show honors victim of a car-ramming attack.
- Show named 'Gaze and Connect' fulfills a shared dream.
- Late artist's husband wants her work celebrated globally.
The art exhibition "Gaze and Connect" will proceed in memory of Jenifer Darbellay, a victim of a car-ramming attack in Vancouver last April. Initially planned as a joint exhibition with her close friend Nadine Kelln, the show has taken on profound significance for Kelln following Darbellay's death. Kelln aims to realize their shared dream, making the exhibition even more important now.
Darbellay's husband, Noel Johansen, fully supports the exhibition, seeking to honor his late wife's artistic legacy. He describes her paintings as vibrant expressions of her unique perspective, inviting viewers to engage with the art by filling in their own interpretations. Kelln, inspired by Darbellay's work, took up painting herself and feels her friend's encouraging presence when she creates.
The exhibition, hosted by the South Delta Artists Guild, will feature pieces by Darbellay, Kelln, and Heather Edelmeier. It runs from February 13 to February 22 at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen, B.C. Johansen emphasizes the importance of human connection and empathy, sentiments echoed by Kelln, who believes love can heal and that connection is vital to preventing negativity.
