The "Petal" era has officially begun for Ariana Grande with the May 29 release of "Hate That I Made You Love Me," the lead single from her eighth studio album. This track, co-produced by Max Martin and ILYA, offers a glimpse into the forthcoming "Petal" album, scheduled for release on July 31. It marks Grande's first non-soundtrack single since "Twilight Zone" in 2025.
Grande announced "Petal" on April 28, characterizing the 12-track project as "little feral." She elaborated in a video clip, stating it comes from a place she's been "too shy or polite to tap into before," embracing a more uninhibited approach. The album will be released through her BabyDoll Music imprint, exclusively licensed to Republic Records.
The music video teaser for "Hate That I Made You Love Me" premiered on May 27, featuring actor Justin Long and set to fully release on June 1. "Petal" follows Grande's 2024 chart-topping album "Eternal Sunshine." Since then, she has contributed to the "Wicked" soundtracks and won a Grammy for her rendition of "Defying Gravity."
