Sebastián De Caro, a prominent Argentine artist, will direct a new spin-off of Joe Begos's alien horror film, "Jimmy and Stiggs." This project, announced after a deal at the Cannes Film Festival's Fantastic Pavilion, will introduce new characters navigating the same alien menace in Argentina. It represents an expansion of the universe created by Begos, rather than a straightforward remake.
"Jimmy and Stiggs" premiered at Beyond Fest in 2024 and received a U.S. theatrical release in August 2025. The film, shot on 16mm over four years, follows two friends confronting an alien siege. Its unique blend of practical effects and raw energy garnered critical acclaim and international recognition at festivals like Sitges.
The deal for the Argentine spin-off is the second project to emerge from the MorbidoGate IP Showcase at the Fantastic Pavilion. De Caro will co-write the screenplay with Matías Orta, aiming to infuse the expansion with a distinct Argentine perspective. Eli Roth and Joe Begos will serve as executive producers, with Roth expressing enthusiasm for De Caro's vision to localize the horror concept.
