The Archers, the world's longest-running radio soap opera, is embarking on a national stage tour to commemorate its 75th anniversary. This landmark celebration, titled 'The Archers: Live at 75,' will run from June to November.
Each performance will be hosted by comedian Angela Barnes and feature four actors alongside the show's live sound-effects specialist. The tour promises an evening of "storytelling, nostalgia and behind-the-scenes insight" into how the beloved BBC Radio 4 drama is made.
The tour will present a specially written episode performed live on stage, complemented by archive material from the BBC vaults. Audiences can also anticipate an interactive element with a Q&A session and a pub quiz inspired by The Bull, the fictional village pub.
Originally conceived to educate on agricultural methods, The Archers, first broadcast on January 1, 1951, has evolved to reflect rural life changes and tackle contemporary issues. The tour commences in Manchester on June 7th and will travel to numerous towns and cities across England, Scotland, and Wales, including Wolverhampton, Coventry, Birmingham, and Stoke-on-Trent.
