21 Feb
Summary
- Rahman will credit Ustad N Faiyazuddin and N Zahiruddin Dagar.
- Credit will be added to 'Vera Raja Veera' during suit.
- New credit acknowledges Dagarvani Tradition Dhrupad inspiration.

In a significant development, music composer A.R. Rahman has agreed to attribute credit to the late Ustad N. Faiyazuddin Dagar and Ustad N. Zahiruddin Dagar for his song 'Vera Raja Veera'. This decision comes while a copyright infringement suit, filed by an heir of the Dagar brothers, is pending. Rahman's legal team informed the Supreme Court that the composer respects tradition and will display a new credit line on digital platforms.
The agreed-upon credit reads: "Composition inspired by Dagarvani Tradition Dhrupad, first recorded as Shiva Stuti by Late Ustad N Faiyazuddin Dagar and Late Ustad N Zahiruddin Dagar." Rahman has been given five weeks to implement this change across all mediums, including OTT and online channels.
The legal dispute originated from a suit filed by Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who claimed copyright over the 'Shiva Stuti' composition by his father and uncle. The Supreme Court, while disposing of the appeal, emphasized that all contentions of both parties would be considered during the trial at the High Court.
