11 Mar
Summary
- Kennedy's concept originated from a shelved Sudhir Mishra film.
- The shelved film starred Sanjay Dutt and Tejaswini Kolhapure.
- The core idea of the character dates back to 2003.

Anurag Kashyap's film Kennedy, which premiered on Zee5 last month, has an interesting origin story. The germ of the idea for Kennedy originated from a Sudhir Mishra film that was shelved years ago. Mishra was making a film in 2003 that featured Sanjay Dutt and Tejaswini Kolhapure. This project, reportedly based on a ruthless real-life cop, stalled after only a couple of days of shooting.
The character, however, lingered in Kashyap's mind. He even attempted to develop it further, considering a Malayalam film project with director Rajeev Ravi and actor Mohanlal. Ultimately, Kashyap brought the character to life in his own film, Kennedy, set during the Covid lockdown and inspired by recent Mumbai incidents.
