Anurag Kashyap: Why Bollywood Bends, South Film Industry Stands Firm

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has critically examined the power dynamics within Hindi cinema, highlighting Bollywood's tendency to yield under influence. He posits that the South Indian film industry maintains its integrity more effectively due to its robust regional culture and reduced reliance on the Hindi market. Kashyap elaborated that the first compromise in Bollywood, often enticed by significant rewards, makes subsequent concessions difficult to resist, creating a cycle of compromised integrity.

He stated that individuals within Bollywood are acutely aware of these compromises and often feel embarrassed or ashamed by them. However, once a door to compromise is opened, it becomes nearly impossible to shut. This awareness doesn't translate into voluntary action unless specific individual requests are made. The filmmaker's latest directorial project, 'Bandar,' starring Bobby Deol, received critical acclaim but did not achieve significant box office success.
