22 Jan
Summary
- Anupam Kher was initially cast as Mogambo in Mr. India.
- Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor removed Kher from the role.
- Amrish Puri's portrayal of Mogambo became iconic.

Anupam Kher recently disclosed that he was originally chosen to play the antagonist Mogambo in the landmark 1987 film Mr. India. However, he was replaced by Anil Kapoor and producer Boney Kapoor, who are described as his close friends. Kher admitted that the decision was made without his immediate knowledge.
He humbly conceded that he could not have embodied the character with the same brilliance as Amrish Puri. Puri's iconic rendition of Mogambo, including the memorable catchphrase "Mogambo khush hua," became a legendary part of Bollywood history after Kher's screen test.
This revelation came during a lighthearted social media video shared by Kher's stepson, Sikandar Kher, which captured the veteran actor recovering from dental surgery. The interaction showcased their close bond, despite Kher's playful attempts to prevent the video from being posted.
