Brooch in Bag: Antiques Roadshow Guest's £10K Surprise
20 Feb
Summary
- A small gold rabbit brooch with sapphire and diamond eyes was found.
- The brooch, purchased 25 years ago, was valued at £3,000.
- It could be worth up to £10,000 if attributed to a famous jeweler.

A guest on Antiques Roadshow discovered the significant value of a small gold rabbit brooch he had casually stored in a plastic bag. Expert Joanna Hardy examined the piece, noting its 18-carat gold composition and the sapphire and diamond details.
Hardy estimated the brooch, dating from the 1960s, to be worth at least £3,000. The owner, who had acquired it 25 years prior at an antiques fair, was astonished as he had only anticipated it being worth around £1,000.
Further enhancing its potential worth, Hardy suggested that if the brooch could be attributed to a high-profile jewelry house such as Cartier, its valuation could escalate to between £8,000 and £10,000.
