Anthrotek, a company based in Newmarket, Suffolk, has seen remarkable growth in its first year of operation, largely due to its involvement with the "28 Years Later" film franchise. Specializing in synthetic skin, animatronics, and prosthetic body parts, the firm created a prosthetic zombie mask for the film, a project co-founder Nazmus Tareque described as "amazing fun" and a significant momentum builder.
The company's origins trace back to co-founder Dr. Raoul Peltier's passion for film prosthetics, which he began creating in his garage. Anthrotek has successfully diversified its offerings, combining its film industry expertise with applications in the medical field. They produce items such as injectable pharmaceuticals, dermal injections, epi-pens, and even synthetic rats for laboratory testing.
In addition to film and medical work, Anthrotek also developed 18 state-of-the-art animatronics for the 2024 Thursford Christmas Spectacular in Norfolk. The company collaborates with notable figures, including BAFTA and Oscar-winning artist David Malinowski, to create realistic prosthetics. With a polymer chemist among its co-founders, Anthrotek utilizes advanced composite materials for its silicon prosthetics, allowing for detailed molding and painting.
